What is the Coronavirus?
The Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory virus that causes a variety of symptoms - ranging from mild to severe.
Symptoms may include: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea (per the CDC guidelines). This list does not include all possible symptoms. Talk with your provider if you have questions or concerns.

FREE COVID-19 Testing (partnering with our local health departments):

Testing is available to all members of the public who live or work in Indiana regardless of symptoms, including children as young as two years with parental consent. Individuals should bring proof of Indiana residency, such as a state-issued ID (driver’s license), an Indiana work ID, or a utility bill. Those needing a walk-in or drive-up appointment (Vevay) may register upon arrival.

VEVAY: Switzerland County Medical Building (1190 West Main Street):
Monday to Friday: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. / 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m./ 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (extended hours)
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Guests should park in one of the designated parking spots upon arrival and call the number on the sign. A member of the KDH team will come to the guest’s vehicle to complete the test. Results generally take three to five days to arrive. Questions? Call 812.801.8707.
Masks and Face Coverings
In accordance with the State of Indiana mandate (effective, July 27, 2020) KDH requires all patients, guests and visitors (except those age 2-under) to wear a mask (or face covering) when entering a KDH facility (hospital or physician/provider office location) and to wear the mask throughout the visit. Thank you for helping us reduce the risk or spreading COVID-19 to others.
KDH currently allows one (1) healthy, masked visitor to accompany patients in all areas with one exception (noted below). Visiting hours are between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Visitors will receive an arm band that must be displayed, and the visitor is required to wear his/her mask for the duration of the visit. Visitors cannot be interchanged during the visit.
EXCEPTION: COVID-19 PATIENTS: No visitors will be allowed for patients with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19. Thank you for understanding.
Current Visiting Notes:
1. Children age 2 or under should not wear a mask.
2. One healthy visitor may accompany a patient while in the Emergency Department (no switching in and out). Masks are required for all visitors and guests (per the State of Indiana mandate, effective July 27). Exceptions may be made if the patient is in critical condition or if unusual circumstances warrant, as determined by KDH team members.
No other visitors or guests are allowed at this time. KDH continues to follow local and statewide guidelines for visitation to help reduce the potential spread of COVID-19.
When to wear gloves
For the general public, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends wearing gloves when you are cleaning or caring for someone who is sick. Disposable gloves should be disposed of immediately after use into a lined trash can (do not disinfect or re-use gloves).
Wearing gloves while shopping (for a shopping cart), using an ATM, or other reasons will not necessarily protect you from getting COVID-19 and may still lead to the spread of germs. The best way to protect yourself from germs (including the COVID-19 virus) when running errands or after going out is to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or to use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
COVID-19 is mainly spread through droplets created when a person who is infected coughs, sneezes, or talks. You can protect yourself by keeping a social distance (at least 6 feet) from others and washing your hands (or using hand sanitizer as noted) at key times and by practicing everyday preventative actions. Providers accepting appointments
KDH providers are scheduling appointments for both acute and chronic health issues. Your overall health is important, please do not let fears aabout COVID-19 keep you from maintaining your health. Contact your personal care provider (physician or nurse practitioner) regarding appointment options.
Antibody Testing available
KDH provides antibody testing for COVID-19. Antibody testing is available to anyone at a cost of $75 per test (a patient may seek insurance reimbursement on his/her own). First priority is given to healthcare workers and first responders. To schedule a COVID-19 antibody test, call the COVID-19 Hotline at 812.801.8010 or your personal care provider. Results will be sent directly to the patient unless otherwise specified. If you have recently been sick, wait at least three (3) weeks after the onset of symptoms to be tested (per CDC guidelines). The antibody test can confirm whether someone has contracted the virus, whether known or unknown (asymptomatic).
KDH has expanded COVID 19 testing capability.
If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms and would like to be evaluated by a provider, call the COVID-19 Hotline at 812-801-8010 to request an appointment. Symptoms include: cough, fever, fatigue, muscle or body aches, sudden loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath, headache, sore throat, new GI distress (nausea, vomiting or diarrhea), congestion or runny nose.
NOTE: If you are having a medical emergency or difficulty breathing call 911 or use the emergency room.
What to do you if you have COVID-19 Symptoms/Questions
- 1. Call the COVID-19 Hotline 812.801.8010 - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Monday - Friday);
- 2. If you have questions before the Hotline opens or after it closes for the day - and symptoms are manageable - call the COVID-19 Hotline at the next available opportunity;
- 3. If symptoms worsen or you believe you are having a medical emergency, call 9-1-1 or report to the nearest emergency department. If heading to the KDH Emergency Department, please call 812.801.0800 (main switchboard) in advance to alert the Emergency Department team of your arrival. Team members will meet you outside the entrance to help protect themselves and others from possible exposure.
What to do you if you have been exposed to COVID-19
- Stay home and self-quarantine (isolate) for 14 days;
- Contact your personal care provider for additional follow-up recommendations;
- If symptoms develop, call the COVID-19 Hotline at 812.801.8010.
How can you protect yourself?
As with other viruses that cause respiratory illnesses:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based (at least 70%) sanitizer;
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands;
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick;
- Stay home when you are sick;
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash - then clean and sanitize your hands;
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Follow local and regional advice related to gathering together.

Healthcare Workforce Survey
Indiana State Department of Health in collaboration with the Bowen Center developed an Indiana Healthcare Workforce Survey. The goal of the healthcare workforce survey is to identify retired, part-time, and active license but not currently working health care providers who are willing to return to the workforce in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey was sent to all licensed healthcare professionals and is available on the ISDH website. Clinicians were asked which hospital(s) they prefer to work.
On April 3, 2020 hospitals received a list of clinicians who chose them as a preferred location. Hospitals are encouraged to reach out to the clinicians to engage how they can best be utilized.
A follow up email will be sent to all the clinicians who completed the survey to find out if they are now or previously were fully employed and would like to be removed from the list. We will additionally ask if they are willing to work in long term care facilities and alternative care sites such as a field hospital.
