The Emergency Department at King’s Daughters’ cares for over
15,000 patients each year.Yet, our goal is to treat each person
as a unique individual.
Medical emergencies require a quick response
and a highly trained staff. King’s Daughters’ provides
emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Physicians in the
ER access advanced diagnostic tests, high-resolution imagery, and a fully
staffed laboratory. King’s Daughters’ also offers emergency
helicopter transport capability for patients in critical, life-threatening
situations.
To promote more efficient service, Nurse
Practitioners provide less critical patients the option of fast-track
care. This
helps families avoid unnecessary waiting when the physician is assisting
more seriously injured or ill patients.
Within its 10 private
rooms, the KDH Emergency Department houses a decontamination room for
patients exposed to chemicals, gases, and other unknown substances. Emergency
teams also have access to a new, mobile decontamination unit that can
be set-up in the event of a large-scale disaster. The phone number
to the Emergency Department is 812-265-0154.
EMS Services
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) offers
a three-tiered response system to provide both basic and advanced life
support. Each
ambulance is staffed with a team of EMS professionals, all of whom are certified
by the State of Indiana. A Paramedic also responds to calls needing
additional support.
EMS team members at King’s Daughters’ are
experienced in on-site rescue, providing the critical first link to medical
care. EMTs stay in constant communication with physicians in the Emergency
Department.
The King’s Daughters’ EMS team
includes over 50 professionals. Staff members maintain six ambulances
and two non-transport emergency vehicles. EMS squads not only respond
to 911 emergencies, but also provide non-emergent life support during
patient transfers and convalescent transports.
During special events,
KDH provides an EMS Bike Team, allowing EMTs to reach the scene much
faster, as large crowds often slow the arrival of an ambulance.
