The Cardiac Catheterization Lab at King’s Daughters’ Hospital
provides specialized diagnostic testing involving heart function and
arterial blockage.
Heart catheterization provides the Cardiologist
a detailed look inside the arteries around the heart, identifying any
potential blockages. The Lab offers physicians a powerful tool in the diagnosis
of heart disease.
Heart catheterization also allows physicians to
measure heart chamber pressures, cardiac output, convert abnormal heart
beats, and place temporary pacemakers. Trained staff can also stabilize
patients suffering emergency cardiogenic shock.
Each year, the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at
King’s Daughters’ treats about 300 patients. Full-time
staff members include Registered Nurses and a Radiologic Technologist, all
with a critical care background. All staff members are certified in
Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Two members are certified as Registered
Cardiovascular Invasive Specialists (RCIS).
